Nov 22, 2016 – Proverbs 18

Read Proverbs 18

This chapter is packed full of thoughts about relationships and things that affect relationships – friends, wife, effect of speech, pride.

As you read, think about these questions…

  • What relationships do you see mentioned?
  • How can types of speech affect these relationships?
  • Why is wisdom important in relationships?
  • Friends are mentioned several times. What is said about friendships?

Everyone needs to evaluate their relationships to make sure their relationships are healthy. According to this chapter, what do you need to do to make healthier relationships?

And then my favorite verse is in here…

The man who finds a wife finds a treasure, and he receives favor from the LORD. -v22

Read Daniel 12

This chapter concludes the interesting book of Daniel. It builds on the narrative from chapters 10 and 11. If you missed those days, go back and read them.

What is your impression of this chapter?

How can you learn more about understanding the things in Daniel 12?

Think about the book as a whole. How would you describe it to a friend?

Is there anything in this book that can encourage you to live a godly life?

Daniel shows us God’s sovereignty over world events. He took a young man who was brought into captivity and used him to show that God is over human rulers. It is good to keep this in mind when we are in troubling times.

Those who are wise will shine as bright as the sky, and those who lead many to righteousness will shine like the stars forever. -v3

Read Daniel 11

Daniel 11 is the explanation of the vision that was given to Daniel in chapter 10. There’s lots of information here and requires a careful reading to follow what’s happening.

Take a piece of paper and create a timeline reflecting the activities of the kings in this chapter.

Now, find a good commentary, like the Zondervan Bible Commentary that can be found at, and see what is said about these events.

Why would God put this chapter in the Bible?

What can be learned about God from this chapter?

Remember that God is the God of past, present and future. Nothing happens outside of His plan. Thank Him for that today!

This chapter describes yet another vision given to Daniel. If you clicked the above link to view this chapter at bible, take a look at the footnote at the end of this chapter.

  • When did Daniel see this vision?
  • Where was Daniel when he saw this vision?
  • What did Daniel see?
  • Who was the man that Daniel saw?
  • What did the Man say to Daniel?
  • How come the Man was delayed in coming to Daniel?

The vision is continued in Daniel 11, with the Man explaining things to Daniel. Put yourself in Daniel’s place. What could you have learned about God in this situation? Was Daniels response appropriate?

Know that God is all-powerful and all-knowing. He knows our past and our future. Thank Him for knowing you and leading you. You can respond knowing the following…

“Don’t be afraid,” he said, “for you are very precious to God. Peace! Be encouraged! Be strong!” -v19

Aug 19, 2016 – Daniel 9

Read Daniel 9

I hope that you’ve enjoyed reading through Daniel. This chapter records Daniel’s prayer.

  • When did this particular event take place? (v1-2)
  • What prompted Daniel’s prayer? (v2)
  • Examine his prayer (vv 4-19) closely. What were the main points of Daniel’s prayer?
  • But, something amazing happened. Who appeared to Daniel? (v20-21)
  • Why did Gabriel come?
  • Describe the meaning of “the earlier vision” that Gabriel gave to Daniel.
  • Find a good commentary and see what they have to say about this description from Gabriel!

We can learn from Daniel that confession of sin is an important part of being right before God. When you pray today, ask God to forgive you for your sins. Go ahead and list them before God as you seek forgiveness.

I went on praying and confessing my sin and the sin of my people, pleading with the Lord my God for Jerusalem, his holy mountain. -v20

Another vision. Only this one is a little different. Daniel had the vision, and the meaning was given by Gabriel.

Looking at verses 1-14, describe the vision that Daniel saw.

  • What are the animals in the vision? What did they do?
  • The question is asked, “How long with the events of this vision last?” What is the answer to this?

The vision is explained in verses 15-27.

  • How did Daniel respond to Gabriel?
  • Who is represented by the two-horned ram?
  • Who does the shaggy male goat represent?
  • What about the four horns?
  • What is said about the “fierce king” that will rise to power?
  • How did Daniel respond to all these things?

Understanding visions and prophecy can be a difficult thing. Some have described visions and prophecies as similar to looking out across range after range of mountains. The prophet describes what is seen, but does not tell which range things are in. This chapter describes some things that have already happened, and some that look to be yet in the future.

Pray that the Lord will provide wisdom to understand and apply the information from this chapter in your life.

The other replied, “It will take 2,300 evenings and mornings; then the Temple will be made right again.” -v14

Read Daniel 7

Now our reading of Daniel moves into a vision that God gave Daniel.

The chapter is divided into two parts – the vision, and the explanation of the vision.

Verses 1-14 describes the vision.

  • What did Daniel see in the storm?
  • Describe the characteristics of each beast.
  • Describe the activities of each beast.
  • “Ancient One” is God. Describe the scene around God
  • Who did Daniel see coming with the clouds of heaven (v13-14)?

Verses 15-28 gives the explanation.

  • How did Daniel seek an explanation?
  • What was the explanation about the 4th beast (vv 23-27)?

Daniel was terrified with these visions. What can we learn about God with his response to the 4th beast? How can this give us peace when the world is in turmoil around us?

“…His kingdom will last forever, and all rulers will serve and obey him.” -v27

Daniel and the Lion’s Den.

This is likely the most famous story from the book of Daniel. I hope that you read it carefully, because it’s more that just an amazing story. It contains some principles that are crucial to living a godly life while living in a questionable culture.

  • Why did the administrators and officials plot against Daniel?
  • How did they manipulate the King into an order that would harm Daniel?
  • Once the law was signed, what was Daniel’s response?
  • Where did Daniel gain his confidence?
  • After Daniel survived the lion’s den, what did the King do?

I want you to spend some time considering all of the possible responses when the government wants you to do something you feel is opposed to God. Pray that God would show you an appropriate response.

He was faithful, always responsible, and completely trustworthy. -v4

This chapter continues the accounts of Daniel. Here, he is called by the name that Nebuchadnezzar gave him – Belteshazzar.

As you review the chapter, you must realize that it is Nebuchadnezzar telling his entire kingdom of how God brought him to a point of worshipping the one true God.

  • What was it about Daniel that made Nebuchadnezzar hold him in high regard?
  • Recount Nebuchadnezzar’s dream. What was it about the dream that bothered him?
  • Look at Daniel’s explanation of the dream. What was Daniel’s advice (v.27)?
  • The dream was fulfilled. Examine Nebuchadnezzar’s response in vv24-27. Reflect on this entire chapter. What is the most significant aspect of Nebuchadnezzar’s life after the fulfillment of the dream?

Sometimes God has to deal rather harshly with us to pull us to a life of obedience. Pray that you would be obedient, and not have to be chastened like Nebuchadnezzar.

Stop sinning and do what is right. -v27

90 feet tall! Can you imagine a statue that tall? Nebuchadnezzar commanded that everyone worship that statue.

If you were in Daniel’s friend’s place, how would you respond?

Look at how these three men did respond in vv16-18. Talk about BOLD!

So, what could Nebuchadnezzar do, but follow through on his threats? He watched the men be thrown into the fiery furnace.

But what did King Neb see in v24-25? How many men were thrown into the furnace? how many did King Neb see? Who was that fourth man?

Now, describe what happened in vv26-27.

What did King Neb say (vv28-29)? And what did he do to these three (v30)?

Here’s my final through. God will honor our obedience to him. Pray that God will give you the boldness to be obedient no matter what the situation.
