Aug 1, 2016 – Psalm 23

Read Psalm 23

This is a well-loved psalm, and is often read at funerals. That reference to walking thru a dark valley beside the Lord is comforting in difficult situations.

But, look at the larger picture of this psalm. It is talking about God’s provision for David and also for us.

  • Think about the picture of the Lord being a shepherd, and what a shepherd does.
  • David is implying that the is a sheep. What are some characteristics of sheep?
  • Why do sheep need a shepherd?
  • Note the various things that the shepherd does for the sheep.
  • How is confidence in the Lord expressed in v6?

When you pray today, ask the Lord to give you the humility that is necessary to follow the Good Sheperd each and every day.

The LORD is my shepherd; I have all that I need. -v1
