Read 1 Timothy 5

This chapter is jam-packed full of information about specific groups of people in the church, and how the gospel should impact them. A significant section addresses honoring widows. Let’s look closer at vv 3-16…

• How is a widow to be provided for?
• What is the criteria for a widow to be put on the list of care in the church (v9-10?
• Younger widows are specifically mentioned in v11 and following. What are they advised to do?
• Compare vv 3-4 with v16. Which widows are to be cared for by the church? How are they to be cared for?

James 1:27 says, “Pure and genuine religion in the sight of God the Father means caring for orphans and widows in their distress and refusing to let the world corrupt you.”

May we always care for widows with a pure heart.
