June 22, 2016 – Genesis 2

Read Genesis 2

Where did we come from, and why are we here? Those questions are at the root of much of the exploration done in science and religion. Although some feel there is a conflict, let’s simply focus on what is said in Genesis 2.

  • The first 4 verses in this chapter tell us that God rested after his six days of creation (see Genesis 1). Why do you think that God rested? Was He tired, or is there more to rest? Think deeply about this.
  • What do we learn about the physical world from the remainder of this chapter? Plants? Animals? Minerals?
  • What do we learn about the Man? Why did God create the Woman? When did God create them? Look for indicators of purpose for the Man and the Woman.
  • This chapter describes the perfect world that God created. There was no sin. The last verse is extremely significant. Think about the idea of “shame” and that they were naked but felt no shame.

This chapter tells us about God’s creation of mankind. As you think about this, ask God to show you His purpose in creating mankind. Ask Him to show you his purpose in creating you. Strive to fulfill His purpose for you.
